Facts from Frankfurt 2010

Frankfurt Book Fair / Alexander Heiman

2010 marked the 62nd Frankfurt Book Fair. As the Priddy Books’ international sales team, Tom and I were at the Fair to meet some of the global publishers who are interested in publishing our books in their own language. We had some incredibly positive feedback about our books from our customers, and found out a few fascinating things while we were there, too. Here are our Frankfurt 2010 Top Ten Highlights:

  1. The Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest trade book fair in the world. This year there were an amazing 7,359 exhibitors and a staggering 279,325 visitors!
  2. Everyone loved our new My Fold Out Colours and Numbers books, we had lots of ‘beautiful books’ comments!
  3. In German, ‘cock-a-doodle-doo’ is said ‘kikeriki’, in Finnish ‘kukkokiekuu’, French ‘cocorico’, and Greek ‘kikiriku’!
  4. Books for babies, especially about Baby Animals, continue to be popular with all our customers
  5. Frankfurt is an amazing combination of the modern, with 14 skyscrapers, more than both London and Paris, and the old, an ancient city with Roman and medieval architecture
  6. The fold-out format of our Giant Fold-out Books of Animals, Machines, Dinosaurs and Words is still really popular with our Dutch customers
  7. During our 3 days at the Fair, we took an incredible 71 meetings with customers from 31 different countries
  8. Our Scandinavian customers were very keen on all of our truck books
  9. Our 1000 Books were loved by all – we had lots of requests for more!
  10. And finally, there was one key topic of conversation: unsurprisingly, the main buzz at the fair this year was around ipads, e-readers, apps, and the future of digital publishing – watch this space!
