Meet the Team—Alice-May

Alice-May, project editor

Tell us a bit about you and how you came to work at Priddy Books.

I studied English at university and went on to do a MA in Publishing so becoming an editor was a natural career path for me. That being said, I have previously worked at an independent Christian publisher and at a magazine publisher so Priddy is a bit different to those!

What does a normal day look like for you?

An editor’s job is, unsurprisingly, to edit books but at Priddy we also write a lot of our own titles. In a normal day I could be coming up with new ideas for future seasons, writing and editing books on the list for another season and sending approval to print for the current season. We work very far ahead so at the moment I’m working on books for 2020 and even 2021.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love the whole creative process but my favourite part is when production bring over the finished book and I get to hold it for the first time. It is always a joy to see the finished book and know that all the hard work was worth it.

What bit of your job do you think people would be most surprised to learn you do?

I am actually the person who writes the blog! I’ve also worked on children’s photoshoots and on catalogues which are all unusual for an editor to do. The wide variety of responsibilities at Priddy Books is what makes my job so interesting.

Which book have you worked on that you feel most proud of?

It isn’t out until January so you’ll have to wait to see it but Watch Me Grow has been one of my favourite books I’ve worked on. I love creating books which help children learn in an engaging way and coming up with different novelties to show children how things grow for this book was a lot of fun.
