Meet the Team—Rosie

Rosie, Production Assistant

Tell us a bit about you and how you came to work at Priddy Books.

I studied English Literature at university, then worked as learning support for ages 4-6, and then did an adult’s fiction internship. Coming across the job to work at a publishers which is primarily for early years felt like the ideal way to combine the three!

What does a normal day look like for you?

It always starts with the exciting matter of checking emails. The time difference between the UK office and the factory contacts in Hong Kong means that the morning is prime email time. After that it can vary from sending purchase orders for books we are publishing to receiving samples of potential materials to use.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Getting to see a step-by-step behind the scenes is great. I follow the schedules of the books from contacting the manufacturers about what the type of paper will be used to opening the box containing the final product.

What bit of your job do you think people would be most surprised to learn you do?

I think it would be monitoring the safety of the books—you don’t usually think about how a child’s development can affect the use of a book, but everything down to the ink used is tested to make sure that it’s safe for the age intended.

Do you have any highlights in the Priddy Books list?

Tough question but what springs to mind is the Alphaprints series. It’s amazing how a book can be embossed as finely as a finger print!
